Slavery, not a thing of the past |

While most people believe that slavery is a thing of the past, more slaves exist today than in the trans-Atlantic slave trade days.
Slavery is a crime that is still being committed today at alarming rates. Millions of men and women are trafficked around the world like merchandise (77% are estimated to be women). Countless number of children are also stolen, sold, or traded in the world market. The majority of these people (87%) are forced into sexual slavery, while the rest are slave laborers. Once a slave, these people have nothing to look forward to but a brutal life of beatings, neglect, and unimaginable abuse.
Slavery is a crime without borders. An estimated 127 countries are responsible for exporting slaves, while 137 countries receive them. It's not limited to just third world countries. Slavery happens in England, the United States, France, and many developed countries. It's an international human rights crisis that can no longer be ignored. Governments around the world must address this issue and stop this exploitation.
