Rice eats her words, now saying that she meant errors in a figurative way when she admitted yesterday that the US has made thousands of tactical errors in Iraq.
Rice: Don't take Iraq errors 'literally' After admitting that the Bush administration has made thousands of mistakes in the Iraq war, Secretary of State Rice withdrew her words by adding that she meant it figuratively, not literally. It turns out that the Bush administration is still unwilling to admit to any real faults. Rice insists that war was the right choice. She said, "I'm enough of a historian to know that things that looked brilliant at the moment turn out in historical perspective to be mistakes, and the things that look like mistakes turn out to have been right decisions." Now we know the entire Bush administration runs on wishful thinking. They are desperately hanging on to the spin that since the Iraq war looks like one gigantic disaster, it must turn out, in the future, to be completely brilliant. Unfortunately for them, people aren't that gullible. Rice continues to face protests abroad as her tour continues. So far she has been rather unsuccessful in repairing the damage that the war has done to the American image overseas. People are unwilling to forget or forgive about the torture scandal and the bloodshed.
