Ubaydi, former Hussain government official has been captured by Iraqi police in Baghdad.  He is suspected of conspiring with Al-Zarqawi, and may have been behind numerous road-side bombings. Iraqi and U.S.-led forces captured Muhammed Hila Hammad Ubaydi (a.k.a. Abu Ayman), former Chief of Staff of Intelligence for Saddam Hussein's Regime. His capture occured on March 7, 2006, but the announcement was not made until DNA testing could confirm his identity. Ubaydi was caught in the Al Mahmudiyah neighborhood of southern Baghdad.

According to sources, Ubaydi has been linked to some road-side bombings as well as other terrorist activities. He has also been linked to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, another suspected terrorist. Ubaydi is beleived to be behind the 2005 kidnapping of Italian journalist Guiliana Sgrena, and is thought to have led an extremist group called the Secret Islamic Army.

It is believed the interrogation of Ubaydi's aide, Abu Qatada, is what led to his capture. Abu Qatada was found in a Baghdad canal by Iraqi forces on December 27, 2005. Qatada was formally arrested on March 9, 2006.

Capturing terrorists is a critical step in maintaining the safety of any region. However, regional stability is not why our troops are supposed to be in that part of the world. Their primary objectives in the region were (and still should be) finding Weapons of Mass Destruction, and finding Osama Bin Laden. Where are they?
